The Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (URAF) reports to the Dean of Undergraduate Education and is a divisional unit of the College partnering with the Summer Grant Funding and Pre-Medical Advising units of OCS, the Student Employment Office, Life Sciences Education, the FAS Academic Division Deans' offices, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, along with other administrative enterprises responsible for university research and competitive national fellowship programs.The scope of URAF's responsibilities includes the following:
- In conjunction with institutional partners, URAF is the hub for general information about undergraduate research policy and processes, including research integrity training, human and animal subjects training and protocols, guidance on funding, stipends, and other departmental matters; and manages the Harvard Centralized Application for Research and Travel (CARAT);
- URAF is the point of contact and administration for prominent institutional research programs such as Herchel Smith, PRISE, BLISS, PRIMO, SHARP, and HCRP;
- URAF coordinates applications to and endorsements for prestigious national awards such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, and Churchill Scholarships, among others, and administers Harvard endowed program funding opportunities for postgraduate study, travel, and public service;
- URAF provides administrative support for Phi Beta Kappa elections, and broad guidance to undergraduate research student organizations and residential communities on matters related to research and fellowships.
