Advising
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (URAF) provides Harvard College undergraduate students with comprehensive support, resources, and guidance for navigating research and fellowship opportunities. We support students from all class years, across all disciplines with projects related to research, travel, graduate study, public service, and more.
Harvard College alumni may request advising for opportunities that require URAF administration:
- US Rhodes Scholarship
- Canada Rhodes Scholarship
- Global Rhodes Scholarship
- Marshall Scholarship
- Herchel Smith Postgraduate Scholarship
- Harvard-UK Herchel Smith Non-Science Scholarship [not currently operating]
- Yenching Scholarship
Drop-In Advising Hours
Drop-in advising sessions are typically 10-15 minutes long. They're a great way to ask questions about URAF opportunities, discuss your interests and plans, or discuss a particular part of an application.
Drop-in advising runs September 2 through December 3, Monday - Thursday from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at 77 Dunster Street.
There will be no advising on University holidays (October 12, November 11, November 25-26).
One-on-One Appointments
Scheduled one-on-one appointments are the appropriate choice for a longer conversation about your research or fellowship plans. URAF advisors can help you connect your academic interests, experiences, and longer-term goals; explore opportunities; and develop strong approaches to applications, proposals, and statements.
All URAF advisors advise across research and fellowship opportunities. Individual advisors bring particular areas of experience and program responsibility to our collective work, but students do not need to identify the “right” advisor before scheduling a meeting. Whether you are exploring possibilities or already pursuing a particular opportunity, you can schedule with any member of our advising team at a time that works for you.
- Students should plan on attending an information session and joining URAF for drop-in advising BEFORE making a request for one-on-one advising.
- One-on-one advising is available on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
- Advising takes place in our office located at 77 Dunster Street.
- There will be no advising on University holidays.
