Hao Family Post-Graduate Social Impact Fellowship

Application Deadline: December 1, 2026 at 12:00 PM ET (Noon)

The Hao Family Post-Graduate Social Impact Fellowship offers graduating Harvard College seniors an exceptional opportunity to spend a year leading a project that could make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Fellows begin after graduation, on or near July 1, and continue for approximately one year. Fellows bring initiative, imagination, and sustained effort to a significant social problem, working with an affected community to move a promising idea from possibility to action.

Hao Fellows work directly with community partners to implement or strengthen a service, program, policy intervention, product, system, or other practical solution. Projects may improve an existing approach, adapt a promising model to a new setting, or develop and test a new response. The defining feature is a credible path from a community-identified problem to concrete action—not research or recommendations without implementation.

For example, a fellow might work with a housing organization and its tenants to design and pilot a new eviction-prevention outreach protocol, assessing progress through tenant awareness and use of available services. Researching and recommending such a protocol without implementing it, exploring the issue without a defined course of action, or filling an ongoing position on the organization’s outreach team would not qualify.

The fellowship provides one of the most generous postgraduate support packages at Harvard. Each Hao Fellow receives a $50,000 stipend, up to $10,000 to implement the project, and funding to share project outcomes—providing the time and resources to pursue ambitious work with independence, accountability, and a clear focus on impact. See Award Benefits for full details.
